These days since Covid-19 has changed our lives forever, many of us have developed morning routines that differ from our old habits. I’ve added things to my routine that have had a positive impact on my mindset. There are two things that I plan to keep as part of my new normal.
Morning Journaling
Recently I have been reading a book called The Artist‘s Way in an attempt to jumpstart my stagnant creativity. The book suggests writing three pages of stream of consciousness every morning. I was resistant to the idea at first because it requires me to get up a few minutes earlier so that I can write before I start doing anything for work.
Surprisingly, I have genuinely enjoyed the time that I spend with my thoughts daily. It’s easy to let all of the bad news on every media outlet override your mind with negativity and fear. I tune in to Chillhop’s jazzy hip-hop while I journal every morning, and it has given me a place to dump all of my fear and anxiety about the future. Better yet, it has also given me a place to explore my goals, dreams, and accomplishments.
Though this post is about morning routines, if you can’t find the time in the morning due to kids running around, maybe find a few minutes at night to write a couple of paragraphs. If you haven’t tried it before, get yourself a cute journal and some jazzy stickers or colored pens to dress things up and try it out. It can’t hurt.
Daily write-in
If like me, you have been fortunate enough to work from home, you’re probably worn-out by conference calls and video meetings for your job. I’m part of a Facebook writers’ group one of the members put out a call to join a daily Zoom call to meet and write for an hour every weekday. I jumped at the chance to have a place to meet with like-minded individuals to work on towards my goals of completing my second book.
For you, it could be meeting with a group of women entrepreneurs, mommies exchanging recipes, or a hobby group. For instance, I have also joined a few people live as they work on sewing projects. No matter the passion, you can find others interested in those same things. With technology, you can connect with people all across the world and find your tribe. If you can’t find a group, start one yourself. There’s a person somewhere who’s been looking to find someone like you.
What are some things you have added to your morning routine during this time of Staying home that you plan to carry on once it’s safe to get back out into the world again? Share your thoughts with us on our socials, or leave a comment. We’d love to hear from you.
